On a computer: sha256sum (Linux), shasum -a 256 (Mac) or certutil -hashfile … SHA256 (Windows). A different value means a corrupted or altered file — do not install it. - Build
- 1.0.0-test2 (versionCode 2)
- Compatibility
- Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer; targets Android SDK 36
- Package ID
- com.neoshade.ghostmesh
- Signed by
- CN=CrewChirp Test Builds, OU=CrewChirp, O=neoLEGALAi LLC, C=US
- Source
- commit cb9384e, built 2026-09-11
- What it is
- A debug-signed sideload build for testers. The eventual Play Store release will be signed with a different key and will not install over this build.
- Cost
- Free. The app never asks for an account, a login or a payment to create an identity, pair or message nearby.
Install on a fresh phone
- 1
Download the APK on the phone
Use the button above in Chrome. If the browser asks whether to keep the file, choose Keep — this is expected for any app that does not come from the Play Store. - 2
Open the file and allow the install
Tap the download notification or open it from Files. Android will ask you to allow Chrome (or Files) to install unknown apps — turn that on for that app only, then tap Install. - 3
First launch
Open CrewChirp, tap Get started, write down the recovery phrase. No internet is needed for this step. - 4
Grant nearby permissions when asked
Nearby Devices / Bluetooth, and on Android 10–12 also Location, which the OS requires for Bluetooth scanning. CrewChirp does not read GPS.
Already have an earlier CrewChirp build?
Builds before 1.0.0-test2 (for example crewchirp-debug.apk, versionCode 1) were signed with a different, temporary key. Android will refuse to install this one over it ("App not installed"). This happens once; every later test build signed with the CrewChirp test key updates in place.
Uninstalling deletes your identity, contacts, chats and voice notes on that phone. To keep them:
- In the old build: Settings → Back up messages, choose a password, save the file somewhere you can reach.
- Only then uninstall the old build.
- Install 1.0.0-test2, tap Get started with any name.
- Settings → Restore from backup, pick the file, enter the password. Your address, contacts and chats come back; nobody needs to re-pair.
If the old build is already gone: choose I have a recovery phrase at first launch. Your address returns, chats do not.
iPhone
Beta coming soonThe iOS app compiles successfully and is being prepared for TestFlight distribution. Until the TestFlight invitation link is verified to install on a real iPhone, we will not show a download button or imply the app is installable. No placeholder links.
Browser
Available nowThe same messenger runs in a modern browser at /app. It cannot use Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi radios, so it connects paired friends over the internet instead, using a public best-effort matchmaking service. Your identity and chats live only in that browser.
